Please see reports at the end of this page. Please comment on proposed tunable filter bank modes (Ed's report) and on the calibrator data base requirements (Gary Fuller)
Offline: test 2.0 almost complete. External testers done, regression testing to be done.
Pipeline: heuristics test3 complete, report written and on the TWiki.
OT: Next small ObsPrep test is being planned by Leonardo.
Archive: Next test will be 6-11 June in Socorro. Test will focus on bulk data transfer, stability of streaming connection, monitor point access. In order to carry out these tests Andreas has identified pre-requisites needed from other subsystems. These are identified at: TestPreRequisites. All subsystem leads have been asked to review this list to see if they can support it. This will be a mini-integrated test with user input.
Control: Operator GUI testing is currently scheduled for early June at the ATF.
Correlator: User test currently being planned for this summer. This will probably include a test of the frequency spectrum, analyzing the software behavior using the known functions for the tuning filters, and analyze the delay response as processed by the software.
Requirement Compliance Matrices for test cycles 2, 3, and 4 (testing R1.1, R2.0, R2.1 delivered functionality respectively) can be found Here. Please review, and ensure that the information captured is correct, particularly for user tests planned for the next 6 months. Please send any updates to Andy Hale.
Status of control requirements: Jeff will look into the latest draft from Bryan (early next week) and finalize them.
Observing Modes (PhilippeSalome, RobertLucas): no progress this month. For R3 we plan to have completed Single Field Interferometry observer mode and related calibration modes. It is not clear wheter other modes are needed for R3.1, this will be discussed at CDR3.
ATF upgrade to ACS 4.0, and associated verification tests, still in-progress.
Reviewed draft Optical Pointing Telescope (OPT) device requirements for JAO. Some components relevant to Control (such as on-line image analysis). Most control components should simply be ports of design used for ATF prototype antenna evaluation.
Tom Oosterloo -- Executive
John Richer -- Telescope Calibration
Apologies - will miss the telecon due to teaching
No specific TelCal activity this month apart from the telecon but spent some time on the WVR PDR, preapring contrinution on WVR modeling and science. There are some p[ossible outcomes of relevance to TelCal, in particular specification of algorithms/requirements for skydips with the WVRs, and providing support for more complex WVR algorithms.
Ed Fomalont -- Correlator
Discussed with Jim Pisano and the correlator group about the development of tests by late summer. The plan is to start with a complex frequency spectrum, fold in the tunable filter responses, add noise, convert to delay lag data. This data will then be analyzed by the correlator software in order to 'reproduce', the original spectrum. Geometric delay variations with time can also be added if useful for testing Calc at some minimal level.
Although the tunable filter frequency setups are very flexible, the first correlator software will support: 1) Contiguous setting of the 32 filters, with overlaps of perhaps four channels: 2) One set of filters (say 8) covering a relatively wide frequency band, and up to two sets of filters (example 16 and 8 each) covering two lines within the wider band but higher frequency resolution. This seems complicated enough to be astronomically useful without going into arbitrary configurations of the tunable-filter settings, at least for the present. Any comments on this initial plan?
Debra Shepherd -- Off-Line Analysis
Supported testers doing the 3rd Offline User Test. Test is expected to be complete on 10may05.
Reviewed the SSR plan document for CDR3 - worked with Andy to provide updated compliance matricies and planning spreadsheet.
Began reviewing all subsystem plan documents and subsystem planning spreadsheets in preparation for CDR3.
Received VLA test time for mosaic observations of W3 - these data will take about 6 months to get (B and C configs) and be used for future Offline testing.
Worked with Chris and Lindsey to finalize the QuickLook? granular requirements in time for CDR3 planning. I also drafted some QL development priorities from a science and user testing perspective and sent these to Lindsey and Chris for their review.
Attended weekly pipeline and offline meetings.
In association with a trip to Sicily (to attend an IAU symposium) and St. Andrews Scotland (to give a colloquium), I'll also stop by Edinburgh for a few days from 24-26 May to visit Alan Bridger and David Clarke at the ATC. I have no specific agenda - just thought I'd stop by since I will be in town.
Leonardo Testi -- Observing Program Preparation
I had several discussions and telecons with the group on actions following our old user test 2 and the new release 2.1. Especially in the areas of algorithms for Data Rates computations (we have now implemented an algorithm based on our SSR Memo from last year), possible diverse defaulting and verification mechanisms, we also discussed a new documentation and organization of the System View interface.
A small user test is planned to start within this week. The goal is to review the actions taken after the previous large User Test. The next extensive test is scheduled just after R3.0.
I received the draft OT requirements for ACA from Ken Tatematsu. I plan to discuss this document in detail with the rest of the team at the face-to-face meeting in Edimburgh in late May.
I have another meeting tomorrow afternoon, I may not be able to dial in.
Gary Fuller -- Archive
Wrote requirements for catalogues in the archive. In particular the calibrator, source and spectral line catalogues. These should be reviewed by the SSR. The requirements are here
Discussed the types of query the archive needs to support with Andreas
Apologies for not being able to make the telecon. I will be travelling.
Francois Viallefond -- Science Data Model
Chris Wilson -- Pipeline
this month I reviewed and revised the granular requirements for the Quick Look Pipeline. This was a significant piece of work, as the requirements had not been looked at since Sept 2004 and had been left in a rather funny state at the time. This new version tries to incorporate the new focus on the Quick Look Pipeline as being used by ALMA staff and operators rather than by PIs. I sent the new version to Debra and Lindsey Davis; it is available from SoftwareSubsystemsDetailedRequirements.
I also reviewed the planning tables that Lindsey Davis had prepared for the R3.0 and R3.1 development goals
Mel Wright -- Scheduling
Andy Hale -- Test Assistant
DOORS
All final R2.1 updates received from the subsystems, data is in DOORS, and final reports can be found at: MNGPUB.R2dot1
CDR3 Requirement Compliance Matrices complete, and sent to the subsystems for updates
CDR3 Planning spreadsheets were completed, and sent to subsystem leads.
Provided Gianni Raffi with higher-level programmatic reports, which he shared with Tony Beasley, during Tony's visit to ESO.
Provided a clarification (by email and TWiki) for the difference between CDR3 planning spreadsheet, and the requirement compliance matrix.
All high level science requirements are in DOORS, granular requirements are next to be put in.
Produced a CDR3 (covering R3.0 and R3.1) feature planning spreadsheet for the SSR, which details the expected deliverables from the SSR (this does not involve standard testing support, but rather deliverables which myself, Debra, and Phillipe are responsible for)
Testing
Updated the Requirement Compliance Matrices for the SSR development plan (being updated for CDR3). This covers test cycles 2, 3, and 4. This was completed, incorporated into the Plan, and delivered to Debra.
Discussed supporting Archive testing this summer. Currently in the process of getting ObsPrep? up and running, and will produce SBs to populate the archive to do benchmarking and XML testing.
Discussed Control operator GUI testing at the ATF. Currently also planned for early June.
Currently discussing Correlator software tests with Ed Fomalont.
Requirements
Supported Chris', Lindsey's, and Debra's effort to update QL requirements, which among other things, incorporated EVLA granular requirments that fit well within ALMA QL.
Philippe Salome -- Observing Modes
I will not attend the meeting because of permanent position applications in Paris.
No improvement this month. I dedicated most of my time to my applications and to PdB? activities.
